Know More About Durban City
Durban is the third largest city of South Africa. It's located at KwaZulu -Natal province and forms a region known as eTheknini metropolitan municipality. Its one of the major tourism centers due to its warm climate and long range of extensive beaches. Its population is close to 3.6 million making it the largest on the east coast of African continent. The city is also the busiest port in South Africa as it receives very large vessels either docking to offload or refill.
Durban port is also very busy, a hub for tourists arriving on voyage trips. The port is one of the few natural harbors in the world. It has gained much popularity because it's the gateway to the international parks and historic sites of Zululand and Drakensberg. The port located between Port Elizabeth and Maputo was opened in the 1840s and later became the port of call for ship repairs. The modern Durban dates from 1824 when a group of 25 white men established a settlement at the Bay of Natal near what is today called Farewell Square.
Durban is topographically hilly and only a few areas are flat. There are western suburbs that rise slightly above sea level leading to a place called Botha's Hill. There are many gorges in the city's metropolitan area. There are many resorts and beach villas. There are also many private beach homes for hire overlooking the beautiful gorges. The city has numerous architectural buildings that still retain their originality. This is one city that won't disappoint any traveler who loves exploring.
