Promoting Amanzimtoti Tourism

About the initiative

Local artist, Christine Andrews, has almost completed another mural, with a wall on Link Road being transformed into a stunning Sapphire Coast birding display. Plans are in place to head South on completion of this project, to beautify a wall at the Umkomaas launch site, with the Aliwal Shoal attracting many local as well as international travellers to the region. There is great diving, snorkelling and shark cage diving on offer all year round.

Further to the two murals being painted, SCT is looking into the following projects during the months of March, April and May. Members will participate in the launch of the KZN Marine Waste Network South Coast pilot project.

The SCT guide for 2020 and 2021 is being updated and reprinted with a deadline at the end of March. SCT mapboards that are placed in various parts of the region such as Prospecton, Amanzimtoti, Winklespruit and Umkomaas are also being updated.

All the excitement SCT offers locals and visitors for the Easter Holiday Programme is being finalised. Tourism members will participate in the South Coast’s annual Highland Gathering, which takes place at Amanzimtoti Sports Centre.

They will also represent the region at one of the largest tourism marketing events on the African calendar, Africa’s Travel Indaba, which takes place at the International Conference Centre in Durban.

SCT is a non-profit association and recognised as the official Community Tourism Organisation (CTO) by the local and provincial tourism authority. All committee members, who volunteer for free on behalf the region, put their focus in the main objectives which is to publicise and market the Sapphire Coast as a prime tourist destination and place in which to conduct business or to reside. Furthermore, to give publicity to the advantages of the Sapphire Coast as a holiday and health centre, a national environmental resource area, an industrial, commercial, civic and residential area, and to assist in its development.
